For over a century now various parties have proposed bridging or tunneling under the Bering Strait, thus reconnecting the land-bridge which brought humanity to the Americas 20-30 millenia ago. Such a tunnel -- plus the corresponding road, rail, pipelines, powerwires, and other infrastructure -- would be a tremendous channel for commercial exchange.
