MIT IDEAS 2009 Winners ~ Eight Promising Protos

The 2009 MIT IDEAS Competition finale last night was a great showcase of nearly three dozen emerging products and services. As David Chandler writes in his TechTalk piece, Eight teams win IDEAS awards ~ Grants will support efforts in developing nations and other underserved communities. The winning concepts included:
  • Lebônê -- Dirt microbes-driven fuel cell;
  • EGG -- Rechargeable battery novel distribution system;
  • Aquaport -- Modular water transport system;
  • Global Citizen Water Initiative -- Water test system;
  • 6-Dot -- Type and print Braille labels for the blind;
  • Seeing Machine -- Digital vision aid for some blind;
  • HeatSource -- Phase-change material for heat storage;
  • BLISS -- Innovative education initiative;
