Thanks to
The Economist for reminding us that
Galileo's stunning telescope
and his mythbusting observations starting in 1609 were
As Important As Darwin! This epic event some four centuries ago is one of the first properly documented cases of scientific evidence putting a big nail into the coffin of religion. If the
Church could be so completely wrong about the
Heavens, then perhaps the rest of the faithly mythology is equally bull$#!+? Unfortunately -- alas -- Galileo was persecuted for his pro-scientific heresies during the
Roman Inquisition, but he nevertheless published his
Discourses and Mathematical Demonstrations Relating to Two New Sciences in 1638 in Holland, the most free, proud, and vital state of that time!
