Brain Gain ~ Neuroenhancement Pharmaceuticals

Thanks to Paul at GeekPress for pointing me to the New Yorker article by Margaret Talbot about the Brain Gain: The underground world of “neuroenhancing” drugs. This is a good survey piece of the phenomenon, the social circumstances for users, the ethical implications and emergent legal crackdown, the competitive context and business dimensions, and more.

I found it interresting how the article described neuroenhancers as a cosmetically used drug and compared it to plastic surgery. I think they will be increasingly used, accepted, and even necessary to gain an edge in some fields such as academia much like plastic surgery is used to gain an edge in the entertainment industry.
