"...startup that was born from a summer during which the freezer’s thermostat in their frat house broke down and they had to fix it. According to Evans, “after a few hours, [they] had a temperature sensor in the freezer connected to a microcontroller that was controlling the compressor, complete with an LCD screen that showed current temperature, and a buzzer that alerted if things were getting too hot.” After that incident, Evans and Robbins began planning and eventually launched their company NerdKits. Their mission is to introduce the world to electronics, engineering, and programming. They provide the materials and basic guidelines for people to build their own projects. As explained by Evans, their approach to teaching their customers is the same approach they experienced as students at MIT -- “a learn by doing approach where concepts were not necessarily taught, but discovered either through projects, problem sets, or tests.”Very excellent indeed!
