Permanent Temps ~ Every Job Is Ephemeral...

"Temporary employment is usually one step towards a permanent hire but this time around [the use of temp workers] looks a bit more permanent. [...] It is not just office and light industrial work that is increasingly temporary, as contract work creeps into professional services as well. [Writes temp Tatiana Cruz...] After being made redundant, she was able to find temporary work but at a lower rate of pay. She says some of her colleagues find the insecurity of temporary work hard. “I see a lot of anxiety, people are losing confidence in themselves. Even skilled people aren’t performing at their best after this horrible situation,” she said. [...] “Employers have shifted risk to employees and as many other employers as they can. What the system has learned to do is to be enormously more productive,” he said. “If you think this is temporariness you haven’t seen anything yet.”
